A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos presided over by Justice Dehinde Dipeolu today proceeded with the trial of a Nigerian Immigration Officer, Mr Sanni Razak Adeola who is currently facing trial for allegedly aiding and abetting drug trafficking.
It would be recalled that Adeola was arraigned alongside two others, Eyah Nnamdi Celestine a.ka. Murphy and Hien Narcisse a.k.a. Ugwuoke Peter Oluchukwu sometime in 2023. However, while the other two Celestine and Narcisse had on 23rd of August 2023 pleaded guilty to the four counts charge and we’re convicted and sentence by the court, Adeola insisted on his not- guilty plea.
Specifically, the defendant, Sanni Razak Adeola was alleged to have on or about the 9th of June 2023 at the New Terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Ikeja Lagos during the outward clearance of Qatar Airways flight to Doha, Dubai, United Arab Emirates aids and abetted one Hien Narcisse a.k.a. Ugwuoke Peter Oluchukwu to export 1.00kilograms of Methamphetamine, a Psychotropic Substance under international control.
The offence committed according to the prosecution is said be contrary to and punishable under section 14 (b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap. N30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
When the trial of Adeola resumed before Justice Dipeolu today, the prosecuting counsel for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr Abu Ibrahim called three prosecution witnesses Aminu Bappa, the arresting officer, Mrs Patricia Afolabi, the forensic analyst and Miss Adeyemi Margaret Adenike, the Investigating Narcotic Officer,INO, who all narrated to the court the role they each played in the case of Sanni Razak Adeola.
The witnesses also tendered and identify documents and exhibits which were all tendered and admitted in evidence.
The three witnesses after being led in evidence by the prosecutor Abu Ibrahim were also cross-examined by counsel to the defendant, Mr Dennis Warri.
Meanwhile, Justice Dipeolu has adjourned further trial of the matter till the 21st of February 2025.
The charge against Adeola and the two others reads: That you Eyah Nnamdi Celestine a.ka. Murphy and Hien Narcisse a.k.a. Ugwuoke Peter Oluchukwu both adults, male on or about the 8th June, 2023 at Avenue Garden, Ago Palace-way, Lagos conspired to export 1.00kilograms of Methamphetamine, a psychotropic substance under International Control and you thereby committed an act contrary to and punishable under section 14(b) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap. N30, Laws of th: Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
