Governor Mohammed Bago of Niger state has nominated Assistant Conservator General of National Park Service(NPS), Alhaji Yakubu Mohammed Kolo, as one of the commissioners designate to run the affairs of the state.

ACG Kolo, who retired from the Park Service about two years ago, holds a Masters Degree in Wildlife Management and Conservation with a major in agricultural technology.

While in service, ACG Kolo, who rose through the ranks , has over three decades of impactful experience in ecotourism and helped shape the deepening of conservation management through the Nigerian protected areas ecosystem and served as Unit Conservator of Parks in Okomu , Cross River and Gashaka Gumti National Parks before moving to the Abuja headquarters of NPS as one of ACG’s promoted to assist in the management of the organisation.

On retirement, the ACG went into community development initiatives, empowering rural women and youths, deploying his high net worth contacts, to gainfully providing employment windows for over sixty youths across the three senatorial districts of the state.

Widely travelled, Kolo had represented Nigeria as wildlife and tourism management specialist on the world Heritage committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).

He was a member of the federal government delegation, nominated by the Conservator General of the Federation, Dr.Ibrahim Goni, to the 2014 World Park Congress in Sydney, Australia, a delegate to India and Singapore to study operations of protected areas in those countries.

ACG Yakubu Mohammed Kolo hobbies are wildlife photography, golf, badminton, and travelling.

By his nomination, ACG Kolo is the first professional ecologist and natural resources expert head hunted by any state government in the country, indicative of Governor Mohammed Bago’s deep search for competent professionals to run the affairs of Niger state .
