The Ministry of Power has announced that Nigeria’s power generation has reached a three-year high of 5,313 megawatts (MW) on Monday. This milestone was disclosed by Mr. Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication and Media Relations to the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu.

Adelabu emphasized the importance of Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) taking more energy to prevent a grid collapse. “When power is produced and not picked by the DisCos, it could lead to grid collapse as frequency drops,” he warned. “Efforts will be made to encourage industries to purchase bulk energy,” he added.

This development comes after the federal government pledged to generate 6,000 megawatts of electricity before the end of the year. In May, Adelabu presented the achievements of his ministry since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, highlighting the rise in power generation to 5,000MW on May 3.

Adelabu reaffirmed his commitment to achieving the target of 6,000MW power generation before the end of the year, citing improvements in the sector in 2023. This progress is a significant step towards addressing Nigeria’s power challenges and ensuring a stable electricity supply.(NAN)
