The Chairman of Sagamu Local Government area of Ogun State, Honourable Afolabi Odulate has called on the people living in Ogijo, the border town between Ogun and Lagos State to embrace peace and to be security conscious at all time.
Odulate made the call at a stake holders’ meeting held in Ogijo town on Friday.
The council chairman while admonishing indigenes and residents of the the town and surrounding communities to be alive to thier civic responsibilities like payment of thier taxes, assured them of increasing government presence with the provisions of social amenities that would aid the development of the area.
Speaking on the complaints by indigenes of the town on the alleged encroachment of Ogun State land by the Lagos State government through Ikorodu North Local Government, Odulate while calling for peace urged the people to allow respective governments agencies to iron out the issue officially and amicably.
He, however, cautioned some misgruntled elements living the border communities of Ogun State who are in the habit of shifting the boundary Bicon to desist from doing so.
The chairmen while assuring the people of the area of increase government presence said the present government in the state under the leadership of Governor Dapo Abiodun has taken the development of all boundary communities of the state as priority .
Odulate, therefore, called on the people to cooperate with the government to ensure the success of all programs meant to alleviate their suffering.
On the issue of security, the chairman while calling for vigilant on the part of all citizens, said the local government will soon unveil a new security outfit to complement the existing ones in all parts of Sagamu Local Government area.
On the demand for a new local government council by the people of the area, the chairman said it is a constitutional issue and pleaded with the House of Representatives member for Remo Federal Constituency Chief Mrs Adewumi Onanuga who was present at the stake holders’ meeting and the Senator representing the constituency to put the people’s demand forward when ever the opportunity presented itself.
Speaking at the event, the Ologijo of Ogijo town, Oba Kazeem Olaonipekun Gbadamosi called on his people to embrace peace at all time and cooperate with the government.
On the boundary issue between some communities in the area and the Ikorodu North Local Government area of Lagos State, he said he had at all time been using diplomacy to resolve the matter adding that most of the indigenes are one and from Ikorodu.
He added that what led to encroachment was the absence government physical presence in such boundary areas, adding that this is now been addressed.
Another speaker at the event, Prince Adedoyin Adesina , Revenue Consultant to Ogun State government charged the to be alive to thier civic responsibilities to the government by paying thier taxes as at when due so that they can enjoy more benefits from the government.
He added that the tax law recognizes where you resides and not where you work, he assured that the state government has promised to use the money generated in the boundary communities for the development of such areas.
Prince Adesina called on residents to be loyal to the Sagamu Local Government and Ogun State governments in order to enjoy more benefits from the government.
Present at the stakeholders’ meeting are the Divisional Police Officer for Ojigo Police station, CSP Enahile Omoh, the Lisa of Ogijo, High Chief S. O Lawal, the Losi of Ogijo High Chief Jamiu Aro several vigilante groups , Community Development Associations as well as Community Development Committees.
